“Stay Alive.” Hunger Games Fan Art.

Who doesn’t love “Hunger Games” fan art? First, Haymitch Abernathy. While I think Woody Harelson will do wonderful in the movie, I always pictured Haymitch looking a little more like Robert Downy Jr. I wanted to draw Haymitch inside the fence of District 12, with his alcohol in hand. Still strong, but haggard. Despite the wreck he’s become, he’s still determined to get Katniss through the Hunger Games alive. Second, Finnick Odair. Finnick is my favorite character. I drew him on a beach in District 4, trident in hand. You can’t not love Finnick, and his appearance in the Quarter Quell is my favorite. Finally, Alma Coin. I won’t say much about Coin, for those who haven’t read “Mockingjay” yet. I always pictured Coin looking a little like Sigourney Weaver. I think she would be the perfect choice. “Happy Hunger Games!”

Effie Trinket Fan Art from the Hunger Games

I did promise there would be more “Hunger Games” Fan Art, and here it is. Effie Trinket, Primrose Everdeen, and Cinna. And Buttercup. I couldn’t draw Prim without Buttercup.

To me, Effie is the very picture of propriety. To convey that, I put her in Victorian inspired clothing. And I wanted her pink hair to be PINK. I never saw it as anything but bright pink. She’s in front of the Justice Building, doing her thing. Get ready for the reaping.

Which brings us to sweet little Prim. She had to be some one that was universally loved, that Katniss would give her life to save. She is the reason that Katniss volunteers for the Hunger Games in the first place. I hope the innocence I was trying to capture shows through. And that Buttercup is so ugly he’s cute.

Cinna. I did a couple of sketches of Cinna before I settled on this one. His gold eyeliner is my actually eyeshadow, so it’s very reflective in person. I placed him in front of the Capitol skyline, match in hand, because he’s the real spark that sets it all burning to the ground.

Waiting is the hardest part…

Hello everyone on this rainy Wednesday—at least on the east coast. This unseasonal weather has definitely not gotten me in the Christmas spirit. So I’ve decided to draw some Christmas themed fan art. What kind of fan art, you may ask? Well, that is entirely up to you!

Head on over to the facebook page, and the person with the best idea will get a picture drawn. It must be awesome, and preferably from a fandom I enjoy, definitely one I’m familiar with.

Rogue and Gambit Process

Rogue and Gambit, X-men, Marvel, Colored, Rubble, playing card, kiss

So this isn’t exactly a walk through, and it certainly isn’t a step by step. I don’t work in an orderly fashion, so a step by step isn’t really feasible. But this will give you an idea of my process.

The picture we’ll be looking at is this one.

Rogue and Gambit, X-men, Marvel, Colored, Rubble, playing card, kiss

Rogue and Gambit, of Marvel’s X-men comics. This Rogue and Gambit piece was unique in the fact that I saved different versions. That’s not something I usually do, but since Rogue and Gambit are two of my favorite characters, ever, I wanted to make sure I got it right.

You can see where I started with the cleaned up line art. Then I laid in my basic colors, and blocked in some of my highlights and shadows. I put circles of colors for my light sources and the shadows so the colors will be easy to grab as I go. If it’s a color I think I’ll use pretty frequently, I’ll add it to my color swatches.

Next I figured out the background. That was mainly playing with colors and balancing the foreground, background and figures.

Now you see me playing with highlights, light sources, the folds on Gambit’s jacket. You can see I changed my mind a lot on how Rogue’s costume should reflect light, and the strength of the light from the playing cards on Rogue’s hair.

And then, with all art, you reach the point where you’re hurting more than helping, and you call it done. I hope this is able to help some one in their painting process. The biggest advice I can give is play around, and most importantly, have FUN.

“Let the games begin.”

Wow. “The Hunger Games” fan art is getting a huge response. I’m glad you guys like them. It’s probably the most fun I’ve had drawing fan art. I’m reading “The Hunger Games” trilogy for the second time, and am currently on “Catching Fire.” There will definitely be more fan art. Prim will be next. I’ll leave the rest a surprise, but I could be easily swayed if anyone had any requests. Thanks for looking.

“May the odds be ever in your favor.” Hunger Games Fan Art.

I will admit, I love The Hunger Games trilogy. So of course that resulted in some fan art. Suzanne Collins describes a very visual world, which makes it so easy to draw inspiration from. And when Katniss and Peeta actually get to the Hunger Games, all bets are off.

I really wanted to draw Katniss with her bow, mid hunt in the arena. Peeta fit better within the borders of District 12. And being the boy with the bread, he had to actually have some bread. For Gale, I wanted the background to be the coal mountains of Appalachia. There’s something rugged about that, which works for him.

So I present to you the tributes of District 12 ( and Gale Hawthorne). These are my interpretation of the characters. I am eager to see the movie, but I wanted to get some drawings done before it changed my image of the world of Panem. I couldn’t resist drawing Katniss Everdeen, Peeta Mellark, and Gale Hawthorne.

“I am Jack’s smirking revenge.”

So the post quote has nothing to do with anything. It’s just a fight club kind of night.

Anyway, new art. Two new Copic Marker pieces, which I am still obsessed with. I can’t possibly express just how awesome they are. And they are refillable, so they’re good for the environment.  Also, everyone needs some Rogue and Gambit now and then. “Carry on my Wayward Son.”

Also, some new art.

In honor of the new season of Supernatural, here are the Winchester boys, Sam and Dean, and Castiel. I personally think Supernatural is one of the most under rated shows on TV at the moment (especially if you look at the earlier seasons).

Many references were used for Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, and Misha Collins. And a whole mess of pictures of crows.

Sam, Dean, and Castiel belong to the CW and Eric Kripke.
