Philadelphia Wizard World 2016

We’ll be at the convention Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I made some new upgrades to Jason’s Winter Soldier (and an alt costume) and made a new body suit for my Black Widow. Just need to finish the sleeves and put some gussets in the armpits.

Also, made a Hawkeye for our friend who will be joining us on Saturday. Come say hi!

Because I can’t resist the arm. Now lighter and cooler than ever.

Cosplay Walk-Through: Winter Soldier arm

Alternately titled ‘how I burned off all my finger prints with a hot glue gun.’

This began as an idle thought and a challenge between Jason and myself (I won, by the way). I loved Captain America: The Winter Soldier. I saw it six times in theaters. It’s based on one of my favorite comic runs of all time. Jason and I were actually at San Diego in the panel where they announced it in 2012. Which was surreal because I had just finished Ed Brubaker’s run.

So after the heartbreak over the cancellation of the Winter Soldier ongoing (though they gave him a new one and everything is fine now) and seeing the movie maybe one too many times, this idea took hold. Jason challenged me to a competition over who could make him a better Winter Soldier arm.

Because look how badass that is.

Back from Dragon Con 2014 with Cosplay pictures!

I have to tell you, it was an experience. A fun one. Both Jason and I had cosplayed before, but never to the extent we had at Dragon Con. (Remind me to share those USO girl pictures. I’m still ridiculously proud of my hat.)

First thing we learned: Atlanta is HOT.

After our mild Philadelphia Summer, it was quite the system shock to walk through the heat of Atlanta in not so breathable costumes. But we persevered! Complaining got us through.

Once we got over that, Atlanta was a lot of fun. The architecture was beautiful, and there were some really fantastic restaurants. Also, that Aquarium? Fantastic. If you’re going to Atlanta, go to the Aquarium.

But, to the part that probably got you here: The Cosplay!

Jason and I went as the Winter Soldier and Black Widow. I made put both of these together (Jason got us our prop guns) and will go in to detail about the process in a later post. But for now, I wanted to say I’m still here and show off some pictures. And I apologize in advance for the weird faces I make in pictures.

New Project – Tali’Zorah Vas Normandy Cosplay, Part I

Boyfriend and I just beat Bioware’s Mass Effect trilogy. And by we beat, I mean he beat and I watched it like a movie. Sometimes I even had popcorn. For those interested, though I don’t think it matters, he played as male Shepherd and a paragon engineer. And I decided I really loved the Tali character. She’s adorable, kind of nerdy, and all through the first game I kept thinking her voice sounded like B-MO from adventure time. And she uses a shotgun. That’s a perfect storm of awesome. So much so, I plan to create her costume and Cosplay her at some upcoming cons.

Because I can’t do anything the easy way.

I will be updating you as I try, fail, and try again. Hopefully someone will be able to learn from my mistakes.
